Ailey stuns ... at the movies

There was an embarrassment of riches for arts lovers in August tonight.

If you missed Augusta Ballet's collaborative meeting with Buzz on Biz, exploring how arts compliment and further business, then you might have attended Fathom Events' screening of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's recent Lincoln Center performance - at the local Regal Cinema.

In its 57th year, the company is in top form. The performance opened with Wayne McGregor's "Chroma" in the most passionate delivery I've seen. The energy built to a brilliant delivery of Robert K. Brown's celebrated "Grace."

Robert Battle's "Takademe" was amazing and charmingly hilarious, followed by Ailey's own, beloved "Revelations."

Ailey dancers bring an intensity and purpose to every single movement that you don't see consistently in even the best companies. The life in their dancing is matched by their extraordinary technical excellence.

Research indicates that watching dance evokes in us the feeling of dancing ourselves. The Ailey performers certainly inspired the joy of movement in me tonight. And I got to experience it for less than $20 in the comfort and convenience of my local movie theatre.
