Close to 100 CSRA residents, many of them children, filled the Augusta-Richmond County Public Library Saturday for Augusta Ballet's first-ever film screening. Guests enjoyed complimentary refreshments as they took in the critically acclaimed documentary, "First Position."
The film, which follows six young dancers as they compete for scholarships and company positions in one of the largest, most competitive dance competitions in the world, shines a spotlight on the relentless dedication and grueling work that goes into mastering one's art.
Our young attendees gasped at heartbreaking falls and cheered when the dancers on screen triumphed over pain and other obstacles. They left the screening room having witnessed some of the finest rising stars of the dance world and understanding that dancers come from all over the world, in all colors, shapes and sizes, with a huge variety of backgrounds and personal challenges.
Sorry you missed out? Request a DVD of "First Position" from Augusta Ballet. Proceeds support our mission to promote an enhanced quality of life by fostering a culture of dance appreciation and support.
