HISTORY

Augusta Ballet, founded in 1964, has a 53-year history of presenting outstanding ballet performances.

Due to economic challenges, Augusta Ballet separated from its dance school and dance company in 2006.  No longer associated with a school or performing group, Augusta Ballet evolved as the leading presenter of world-class ballet in Augusta.

Augusta Ballet supplements local dance with performances by world-renowned visiting artists. In recent years, we have presented Martha Graham Dance Company, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet Company, Ballet Hispanico, Momix, Botannica, Garth Fagan and the American Ballet Studio Company. The first presentation of our New Traditions Dance Festival in January of 2016 featured Dance Theatre of Harlem at The Bell Auditorium, and gathered the largest, most diverse dance audience in Augusta history.

By exposing diverse audiences of all ages to great performance, enhancing local dance training with master classes from visiting experts, educating the public about ballet, and providing dance camps for underprivileged children in Augusta, Augusta Ballet is enriching the lives of CSRA residents and ensuring that there will be future generations of audiences for dance in our community.
