HISTORY

Augusta Ballet, founded in 1964, has a 53-year tradition of presenting outstanding ballet and dance performances. From the beginning, it was a performing ballet company with dancers, set designers, choreographers and a school for dance. And, for over forty years, the ballet company was highly recognized for its achievements, and, in 2003 changed its mission and became a presenting company.

With its new direction, Augusta Ballet has focused on resenting world-class companies like Martha Graham Dance Company, Aspen -Santa Fe Ballet Company, Ballet Hispanico, Mommix Botanica and The American Ballet Studio Company. Our New Traditions Dance Festival in January 2016 featured Dance Theatre of Harlem at The Bell playing to the largest and most diverse audience in Augusta’s history.

Over the years ballet audiences have supported classical and contemporary ballet companies. And, audiences today have embraced a broader variety of dance with a more athletic interpretation. It is with this in mind, Augusta Ballet brings to Augusta audiences an exciting mix of dance and other events and programs . Augusta Ballet is more than just dance companies. It has evolved over the years to become a company supporting extensive educational outreach in the form of ballet film screenings, master classes, dance camps, and providing dance school scholarships. We collaborate with Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, Jessye Norman School of the Arts and manyother organizations to encourage participation in dance and the arts. To keep this mission and momentum going we need your support.
